The Advanced Placement (AP) is a program created by the College Board offering college-level curriculum and examinations to high school students. The College Board, a non-profit organization based in New York City, has run the AP program since 1955. It develops and maintains guidelines for the teaching of higher level courses in various subject areas. In addition, it supports teachers of AP courses, and supports universities.

American universities often grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores above a certain number on the examinations. The AP curriculum for the various subjects is created for the College Board by a panel of experts and college-level educators in each subject.

WHBC selects the successful applicants that can fulfill the following:

The entrance requirements are that students succeed at every in a comprehensive selection process.
Meeting Chinese school requirements to be eligible for admission to the Pre-AP program
Passing English –language admission tests in Mathematics and English
Passing an General Ability Test
Passing an interview-panel
Meeting minimum requirements in internal examinations in all subjects at the end of the Pre-AP year.
